Historic Baseball Card Sets at REA’s May Encore Auction

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) is stirring up the sports collectibles world once again with its May Encore auction, serving as a treasure chest for enthusiasts with over 3,600 lots on display. From complete 1950s baseball card sets to rare vintage cards and unique memorabilia pieces, this event is captivating collectors and fans alike.

Kicking off on a Thursday, the auction promises ten days of excitement, offering a glimpse into the early days of America’s favorite pastime right up to the contemporary sports card scene. Among the standout lots are prized possessions like the T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder card from 1909-1911, boasting a rare Uzit back, and the Ty Cobb rookie card from the 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series.

As the bids roll in, attention is also drawn to vintage baseball sets such as the complete 1957 Topps set and the nearly whole 1958 Topps set. High-grade cards from the 1950s Bowman and Topps collections are also stealing the spotlight, featuring rookie cards of legendary players like Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax. The auction’s schedule even includes a complete set break of the iconic 1951 Bowman set, adding to the thrill of the event.

Adding a touch of history, the auction isn’t just about cards; it also showcases memorabilia pieces that are sure to delight fans. From a ticket stub from the 1957 NFL Championship Game to a 1920 Real Photo Postcard capturing the Harvard football team that graced the Rose Bowl, these items bring a unique charm to the auction.

REA President Brian Dwyer is visibly thrilled about the auction’s lineup, noting the exceptional quality of the lots following their successful $15.4 million spring sale. He emphasized the strong interest from collectors and the premium nature of the items available, setting the stage for a competitive and exhilarating bidding process.

For those eager to participate, bidding remains open until May 19 on the REA website, with each item commencing with a starting bid of $10. This auction not only offers a golden opportunity for collectors to acquire rare and high-end sports memorabilia but also serves as a celebration of the rich history embedded within these cherished collectibles.
