Top Sports Card Sales: Dodgers vs Yankees in World Series

Over the last few years, the sports card market has been booming with record-breaking sales, with multiple cards reaching over a million dollars. However, one name that stands out for its absence in the million-dollar club is Shohei Ohtani, despite his stellar performance and massive fan base.

As the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees go head-to-head in the World Series, Topps has unveiled a graphic featuring the priciest cards for some of the key players in this year’s championship:

1. Jasson Dominguez: $474,000

2. Aaron Judge: $324,000

3. Juan Soto: $300,000

4. Anthony Volpe: $150,000

5. Mookie Betts: $123,000

The top of the list is dominated by Yankees players, with Jasson Dominguez leading the charge. His 1/1 Bowman Superfractor Autograph fetched an impressive $474,000, showcasing the high demand for his card. Another standout in the Yankees lineup is Anthony Volpe, whose red Bowman Chrome autograph, limited to just five copies, sold for $150,000 for a PSA 10 version.

Juan Soto’s 1/1 Bowman Superfractor Autograph comes with a unique story, as the autograph was reportedly altered and regraded. Rumor has it that PSA repurchased the card, making it unavailable in the market.

Earlier this year, Fanatics and Sotheby’s collaborated on an auction that showcased some of the most coveted cards in the industry, including several featured in the Topps graphic. However, there seems to be a discrepancy in the reported figures for Shohei Ohtani’s card. Recent data from eBay and CardLadder reveal that a 2018 Topps Definitive Gold Framed Shohei Ohtani Rookie Auto BGS 9.5, numbered 13/30, was sold for $350,000 on October 15. This suggests that Ohtani’s highest sale may be closer to the half-million mark, challenging the notion of his exclusion from the million-dollar club.
