NFL Playoff Quarterbacks’ Rookie Cards Soar in Value

The NFL playoffs are in full swing, and as the final four quarterbacks battle it out on the field, they are also making waves in the world of sports memorabilia. The rookie cards of these top-tier quarterbacks have seen a surge in value, commanding high bids in online auctions. Among the quarterbacks whose cards are experiencing this spike are Patrick Mahomes II, Brock Purdy, Lamar Jackson, and Jared Goff.

The AFC Championship matchup features a thrilling duel between Patrick Mahomes, a two-time Super Bowl champion, and Lamar Jackson, the front-runner for the 2023 NFL MVP award. On the other hand, the NFC Championship clash will showcase the talents of Brock Purdy and Jared Goff, both ranked among the top five in passing yards and sitting in the third and fourth spots, respectively, for passing touchdowns.

In the world of sports collectibles, these four quarterbacks’ rookie cards have become hot commodities in January’s online auctions. The bidding wars have intensified, with some standout items fetching remarkable prices. One such item is a 2017 autographed Panini National Treasures Black card of Patrick Mahomes. This rare gem sold for an impressive $19,300 after receiving 62 bids. Another notable Mahomes card, a 2017 signed Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket card graded BGS 9.5, fetched a staggering $16,577 from 51 bids.

Brock Purdy’s rookie cards are also commanding attention, with collectors eagerly bidding on his highly sought-after items. A prime example is the 2022 Playoff Contenders signed Rookie Ticket “Cracked Ice” variation. Graded PSA 10 and one of only 22 made, this card sold for an impressive $10,268 after 27 bids. Auction results consistently show Purdy’s rookie cards selling for over $10,000, such as a 2022 National Treasures signed patch card graded PSA 9 that garnered an impressive $15,000 after receiving 53 bids.

Lamar Jackson’s rookie cards have not been left out of the action either, with collectors actively pursuing these valuable items. A Gem-Mint 2018 Panini Prizm Black Finite card of Jackson fetched a jaw-dropping $51,100 after 76 bids. Another sought-after Jackson collectible, a 2018 National Treasures autographed patch card numbered #27/99 and graded BGS 9.5, sold for a cool $18,000 after 39 bids.

Jared Goff, despite a mixed start with the Rams and his subsequent improvement since joining the Lions, is also experiencing growing interest in his rookie cards. A 2019 Panini Absolute Kaboom! card, a gold variation marked #6/10, went for an impressive $3,049 after receiving 50 bids. Furthermore, a 2016 Donruss Optic Gold Prizm rookie card marked #2/10 and graded BGS 10 sold for a solid $2,950 after 32 bids.
